Attended the TBLT Conference 2025 in Groningen

Having noticed the TBLT conferences taking place all over the world for years I did not want to miss the opportunity that it took place in the Netherlands this year. I greatly enjoyed this well organised event and having had the chance to getting to know the TBLT community a bit better and actually meet in person with several authors, especially the early adopters and experts with seminal publications in the field, Rod Ellis and Jane Willis.

Enjoyed attending a f2f presentation by Prof. Rod Ellis
Prof. Ellis on task-based pedagogy: the what, why and how – YouTube

And it was a pleasure meeting and chatting with Jane Willis

The contributions from the keynote speakers and insights shared by the presenters and leading researchers whose sessions I attended were enriching and enlightening.

Just a few specific mentions here:

I attended the colloquium ‘Exploring potential uses of AI in task-based language teaching’ coordinated by Fred Poole who also gave an impression of his approach to and experiences with professional development of colleagues and High School teachers.

In her contribution ‘AI promises for language teacher education: evidence from TBLT
lesson plans’ Constanza Tolosa also shared her views and practice of introducing TBLT task design to student teachers .

Roger Gilabert presented the EU project TaskGen and its main goal to generate a web-based tool for task design that will follow the principles of task-based learning models and frameworks.
This will be a semi-automated, flexible, and adaptive tool that will aid task designers in creating tasks for L2 learning and provide the rationale behind design decisions.
The project’s portal will be made available to organisations to support TBLT-design related initial and professional development activities.
